The Halloween spiders at Malmö Central Station have been removed after a passenger said they frightened her so much that she would not be able to get to work, SVT Skåne reported on Thursday.
The giant inflatable spiders were part of a seasonal display that also includes an enormous skeleton and ghosts that glow after dark. Jernhusen, the company that owns the station in southern Sweden, decided to remove only the spiders.
One complaint was enough to remove the Halloween spiders
Ulf Luvö, a technical property manager at Jernhusen, said the complaint was enough for the company to reconsider the decorations.
“We want everyone to feel welcome at our stations.”
Jernhusen had hoped the display would make the station feel less static and add a playful touch to passengers’ daily journeys. Luvö told SVT that the company wanted travellers to stop, look around and take photographs, while still maintaining a good flow through the station.
More than 55,000 people visit Malmö Central Station each day, according to Jernhusen. Halloween is still being celebrated there, but without the giant spiders. The glowing ghosts and skeleton remain.
