The Wegovy weight-loss pill is now available in Denmark, giving patients a tablet alternative to the injectable version of the obesity medicine for the first time.
The tablets were not introduced directly by Danish pharmaceutical company Novo. According to DR, citing MedWatch, they have been brought onto the Danish market by parallel importer 2care4, which buys authorised medicines in other EU countries, repackages them and sells them in Denmark.
The development means Denmark joins a still relatively small group of European markets where oral Wegovy is commercially available.
What the Wegovy pill costs in Denmark
The Danish medicines database Medicin.dk currently lists three strengths supplied by 2care4: 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg, all in packs of 30 tablets.
The 1.5 mg and 4 mg packs cost DKK 2,838.20 (€380), while the 9 mg version costs DKK 3,876.90 (€519). A 25 mg pack, which is the maintenance dose used after the gradual dose increase, is not currently listed in Denmark.
For now, the Danish availability therefore depends on parallel imports rather than on Novo’s own commercial rollout.
Where else is the Wegovy weight-loss pill available?
The oral version of Wegovy received EU-wide marketing authorisation in July 2026, after the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended its approval in May.
Germany became the first EU country where Novo launched the product directly, on 1 September. German pharmacies list a 30-tablet pack of both the 1.5 mg and 4 mg doses at €172.73, while the 9 mg dose costs €233.23.
That makes the price difference with Denmark substantial. The comparable Danish parallel-imported packs currently cost more than twice as much.
The tablets had already reached the United Kingdom earlier in the summer, following approval by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in June.
Outside Europe, Novo had also launched the pill earlier in 2026 in the USA and the United Arab Emirates.
The company has said it intends to introduce oral Wegovy gradually in selected international markets rather than making it immediately available across every country where it has regulatory approval.
A daily alternative to injections
Oral Wegovy contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient used in the injectable version, but is taken once a day rather than once a week.
In the EU, it is authorised for adults with obesity, defined as a body mass index of at least 30, or adults who are overweight with a BMI of at least 27 and have at least one weight-related health condition. It is prescribed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Patients start at a lower dose and gradually increase it to the 25 mg maintenance dose.
For Novo, the pill is becoming an increasingly important part of its obesity business. The company is investing heavily in oral treatments and said in September that it wants to expand production capacity enough to serve substantially more patients with oral GLP-1 medicines by 2030.
