Ramboll plans 400 job cuts as it reduces management layers

Ramboll plans to cut around 400 jobs worldwide by the end of November 2026 as the Danish engineering and consultancy group reduces management layers. The restructuring announced on 27 October is subject to local consultation processes.

Many of the affected positions are likely to be leadership roles, the company said, although jobs at lower levels could also be affected.

Why Ramboll is reducing management layers

Group CEO Christian Jensby said the company’s growth had made its organisation harder to manage:

In many areas, our organisation has become difficult to navigate, decisions take too long, and responsibilities are not clear enough.

Ramboll intends to introduce a common organisational structure across the group and remove overlapping responsibilities and internal coordination tasks. The company argues that these changes will help staff work together and make decisions more quickly.

The impact on jobs in Denmark remains unclear

Ramboll employs approximately 18,000 people globally, including about 4,000 in Denmark. According to TV 2’s report, the company said a smaller share of the 400 job cuts would affect Danish employees, but declined to give a figure.

There will also be voluntary departures, although Ramboll has not disclosed how many. TV 2 reported that further efforts to simplify the organisation could affect employees below management level.

Founded in Denmark in 1945, Ramboll advises on areas including construction, transport, the environment, energy and management. The Ramboll Foundation (Rambøll Fonden) owns 98 per cent of its shares, with employees holding the remaining 2 per cent.

The new organisation is expected to take effect from mid-January 2027, once the relevant consultation processes have been completed.
