MobilePay becomes Vipps on 12 January 2027 in Denmark, Finland and Greenland, completing a rebranding that will put the Nordic payment app under the same name across its main markets. Users have already started seeing a new logo, but the company says the app itself will remain unchanged.
The change was announced by Vipps MobilePay on Tuesday, four years after Danish-founded MobilePay merged with Norway’s Vipps.
From 6 October 2026, the familiar MobilePay icon is being replaced by the Vipps smiley. The name will follow on 12 January, giving users around three months to get used to the new branding.
In Denmark and Finland, the app will retain MobilePay’s blue colour. Vipps will remain orange in Norway and Sweden.
MobilePay becomes Vipps, but the app stays the same
For users, the rebranding is largely cosmetic. Contacts, recurring payment agreements, wish lists and payment history will remain in place, and the change will happen automatically.
Users will not have to download a different app, move their account or take any other action.
Jeanette Hertzum, country manager for Vipps MobilePay in Denmark, said:
“Apart from the name and icon, the app will be exactly the same as today, and users do not need to do anything.”
The company also says its Danish customer service and products tailored to the Danish market will remain in place.
MobilePay has become deeply embedded in everyday payments in Denmark. DR reports that the service has nearly 4.7 million Danish users and handles more than half a billion transactions in the country each year.
The final step after the 2022 merger
The new name is the latest stage in the integration of MobilePay and Vipps.
MobilePay, which originated in Denmark and was also used in Finland, merged with Norway’s Vipps in 2022. The combined company became Vipps MobilePay.
The technical integration followed in 2024, when the services moved onto a common platform. Since then, users across Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden have effectively been using the same underlying app, but under different names and icons.
The January change removes that remaining distinction.
Vipps will therefore become the common consumer-facing name in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, as well as Greenland. The company says the shared platform now has around 13 million users.
For MobilePay, the change also means the disappearance of a brand name that has been used in Denmark since 2013. But while the name is going, the service behind it is not: the company is presenting the rebranding as the final step in turning two previously separate payment apps into a single Nordic platform.
