A stabbing outside Herlev Gymnasium, west of Copenhagen, left a student injured on Thursday afternoon and prompted police to search for two people believed to have been involved. The young man was taken to Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen and was reported to be out of danger later in the day.
According to TV 2, Western Copenhagen Police (Københavns Vestegns Politi) received the report at 13:43 on 10 September after a person had been stabbed outside the upper secondary school in Herlev.
Police search for two people after Herlev stabbing
Police were still searching for two people believed to have been involved in the stabbing on Thursday afternoon.
The victim, described as a young man attending Herlev Gymnasium, was quickly taken to Rigshospitalet, one of Denmark’s largest hospitals. Police said later on Thursday that he remained in hospital but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities had made no arrests by late Thursday afternoon and said they could not yet provide further details about what led to the incident.
Police also had not established publicly whether the two people being sought had any connection to the school or to the injured student.
Western Copenhagen Police, whose district includes Herlev and several other municipalities west of the capital, published an official police update concerning a stabbing in Herlev on Thursday afternoon.
Students and staff shaken by attack near the school
The stabbing took place immediately outside the school, causing concern among both students and employees.
Herlev Gymnasium principal (rektor) Mads Glendorf told TV 2 Kosmopol that an incident occurring so close to the school had naturally affected the school community.
The available information does not indicate that the attack took place inside the school itself.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police still seeking the two people involved and no publicly confirmed motive for the stabbing as of Friday.
