The explosion in Odense was a conflict between gangs

The Danish authorities have escalated their assessment of the security situation in Odense, officially categorizing recent unrest as a violent conflict between two specific criminal groups. according to a conflict assessment by the National Unit for Special Crime (National Enhed for Særlig KriminalitetNSK), the banned gang Loyal to Familia (LTF) is currently engaged in an armed struggle against a local faction known as the Korsløkke Group (Korsløkkegruppen).

The assessment follows a series of violent incidents in the city, including intentional car rammings and a significant explosion and fire in the Korsløkkeparken neighborhood on the night of February 1, 2026.

Escalation of Violence

In an internal conflict note obtained by the Danish broadcaster TV 2, the NSK states that the two opposing groups have utilized weapons or explosives during the dispute. The authorities believe that Loyal to Familia is responsible for one or more violent incidents specifically targeting the Korsløkke Group.

Based on this monitoring, the NSK assesses that there is currently a tangible risk of further violent occurrences.

The explosion in Korsløkkeparken earlier this month marked a significant escalation. While police and technicians were present at the scene on Sunday, February 1, the Funen Police (Fyns Politi) have confirmed that no arrests have been made regarding the explosion itself. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Police Response and Safety Measures

To curb the violence, the police have established stop-and-search zones (visitationszoner) in large parts of southeastern Odense. These zones, which allow officers to search individuals and vehicles without specific suspicion, have been in effect 24 hours a day.

Michael Lichtenstein, Deputy Police Inspector at Funen Police, addressed the public’s concerns in a press release, acknowledging the anxiety caused by the conflict.

“We understand well that this situation can be perceived as unsafe,” Lichtenstein stated. “We want to assure the citizens that we are using all available tools to contain the current conflict, including visitation zones and stricter penalty zones, just as our investigation has a massive focus on individuals who can be linked to the conflict.”

The Banned Gang

The involvement of Loyal to Familia is significant due to the group’s legal status. In September 2021, the Supreme Court (Højesteret) upheld a ban on LTF, declaring it an illegal association under the Danish Constitution. This was a historic ruling, marking the first time a criminal gang was dissolved by the courts in Denmark. Despite the ban, which makes continued membership and activity a criminal offense, the group remains active in the criminal underworld, as evidenced by this latest conflict assessment.
