Amazon has secured Swedish wind power from four onshore projects through new long-term electricity agreements, adding almost 200 megawatts (MW) to the company’s renewable energy portfolio as it expands its data center capacity in Sweden. The four Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) involve wind farms in southern and central Sweden and will bring Amazon’s contracted wind capacity in the country to nearly 1 gigawatt (GW).
The agreements were announced by Amazon on August 28. According to the company, its Swedish wind portfolio will eventually be capable of producing electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 350,000 Swedish households.
Four Swedish wind farms will supply almost 200 MW
The agreements cover the Boarp, Dållebo, Fågelås and Fageråsen wind farms. Together, Amazon has contracted around 199 MW of capacity.
Three of the agreements concern wind farms developed by Swedish renewable energy company Eolus and now owned by sustainable investment manager Mirova. According to Data Center Dynamics, Amazon will purchase 17.5 MW from Boarp, 18 MW from Dållebo and 31.5 MW from Fågelås, for a combined 67 MW.
All three entered operation in 2025. Eolus sold the three wind farms to Mirova in December that year. Their total installed capacity is 88 MW, meaning Amazon’s contracts cover a substantial part, but not all, of their output.
The largest agreement concerns Fageråsen, where Amazon has contracted 132 MW. The wind farm is being built by renewable energy company OX2 in Malung-Sälen municipality, Dalarna.
OX2 began construction in February 2026. The first phase will have 27 turbines and an installed capacity of 189 MW, with expected annual generation of around 550 GWh. It is scheduled to become operational during the first half of 2028. OX2 also plans a 200 MWh battery storage facility alongside the wind farm.

Amazon’s Swedish wind power portfolio approaches 1 GW
The four new PPAs increase the number of utility-scale Swedish wind projects backed by Amazon from five to nine. Before the latest agreements, the company said its five existing projects represented approximately 786 MW of capacity.
Once the latest projects are fully operational, Amazon says its Swedish portfolio will reach almost 1 GW. The company describes PPAs as a way to provide renewable energy developers with predictable long-term revenues while supporting the construction and operation of additional electricity generation.
A PPA does not necessarily mean electricity from an individual wind turbine is physically delivered directly to an Amazon facility. The electricity enters the wider Swedish grid, while the long-term contracts allow Amazon to purchase the output associated with the projects.
More electricity for Amazon’s Swedish data centers
The agreements come as Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues to increase its data center capacity in Sweden. AWS operates its Europe (Stockholm) cloud region through three Availability Zones and has data center infrastructure in Eskilstuna, Katrineholm and Västerås.
Amazon said in June that AWS had invested more than SEK 39 billion in its Stockholm Region since 2017. The company has linked the expansion partly to growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine-learning services.
The latest wind contracts cover roughly one fifth of the 1 GW of electricity supply that Amazon expects to have secured in Sweden, according to TV4 and the Swedish news agency TT.
The expansion illustrates the increasingly close relationship between data center investment and new electricity generation in the Nordic countries. Sweden’s relatively low-carbon electricity system has helped attract large cloud operators, but continued growth in data centers, industrial electrification and other electricity-intensive activities is also increasing demand for additional generation and grid capacity.
