Bestseller is cutting jobs in Denmark, after a record year

Bestseller layoffs in Denmark will affect 135 employees, the Danish fashion group confirmed in early January 2026, describing the move as part of an organisational adjustment to stay “fit for future opportunities”. The job cuts come weeks after the company reported record revenue for its 2024/25 financial year and days after it paid a group-wide sustainability bonus.

Why Bestseller is cutting 135 jobs in Denmark

Bestseller said it is “continuously adjusting” its organisation so it reflects “the reality” in which the group operates. In a written comment to Danish media, HR director Louise Sylvest said the company had decided it was necessary to “say goodbye” to colleagues in Denmark in order to take the right steps going forward.

The layoffs are expected to take place across brands and functions in Denmark, rather than targeting a single label or department. The company has not publicly detailed which units will be most affected.

How big the layoffs are in the group and at home

The 135 redundancies represent about 0.5% of Bestseller’s global workforce, according to figures reported by Danish outlets. In Denmark specifically, Danish media have described the cuts as roughly 4.5% of the employees in the group’s Danish operations.

That split matters in a company where a significant share of jobs are located outside Denmark, but core functions – including management, design, buying and parts of logistics – remain closely tied to the Danish headquarters.

A restructuring after a sustainability bonus and a record year

The timing has drawn attention because the layoffs follow two very different pieces of news from the group.

First, Bestseller recently said it would pay an extra week of salary to all employees after reaching a set of sustainability targets. Danish media reported the total cost of the bonus at DKK 80 million (about €10.7 million).

Second, in its latest annual figures, the group reported a record turnover of DKK 38.1 billion (about €5.1 billion) for the 2024/25 financial year, with profit before tax of DKK 5.9 billion (about €790 million). The company has framed those results as evidence it can keep investing in long-term priorities – including technology, logistics and sustainability – even as the broader fashion industry remains volatile.

What Bestseller is and which brands belong to the group
