Copenhagen’s 7-Eleven leads the world in sales

7‑Eleven Copenhagen has recorded the highest turnover worldwide, with both outlets at Copenhagen Central Station (Københavns Hovedbanegård) ranked first and second, and a third Danish store at Copenhagen Airport placing third, according to Danish trade reporting. The three locations each serve an estimated 4,000–6,000 customers per day, underscoring the strength of Denmark’s convenience retail at major transport hubs.

Central Station stores take first and second place globally

Two 7‑Eleven outlets inside Copenhagen Central Station (Københavns Hovedbanegård) top the chain’s global ranking by turnover. Their position reflects exceptionally high footfall, long opening hours and a product mix adapted to commuters and travelers.

The high‑volume performance at the station has been consistent over recent years, with both shops acting as anchors for on‑the‑go food and beverage in Denmark’s busiest rail hub.

The post‑security store at Copenhagen Airport is reported as the world’s number three by turnover. Passenger dwell time and recurring travel flows help sustain elevated basket sizes.

Copenhagen Airport has also expanded the brand’s presence with additional outlets and smart vending, reinforcing brand visibility along the passenger journey.

Why Denmark leads: location, food offer and a loyalty app

Denmark’s top rankings reflect a combination of AAA locations, a food‑forward assortment and digital loyalty. 7‑Eleven Denmark has shifted over the past decade from a classic kiosk model to a “foodvenience” approach—fresh bakery, wraps, salads and hot drinks—regularly importing product inspiration from Asia while tailoring recipes to local tastes.

The chain’s app supports personalised offers and digital stamp cards, boosting repeat visits among younger customers. As Managing Director Jesper Østergaard (Reitan Convenience Denmark A/S) has argued, “Location is alpha and omega,” adding that the mix of business travellers, students, tourists and commuters sustains constant demand throughout the day.

Franchise model and finances: Reitan’s Danish unit at about €362 million revenue

In Denmark, 7‑Eleven is operated under franchise by Reitan Convenience Denmark A/S, part of Reitan Retail. The company reported DKK 2.7 billion (≈ €362 million) in revenue for 2023, alongside an extraordinary profit of DKK 282 million (≈ €37.8 million) due in part to asset disposals.

For 2024, net profit normalised to DKK 14.7 million (≈ €2.0 million). The network spans around 180 stores in Denmark, with particularly strong performance at railway, metro and airport sites.
