Danish series “Reservatet” becomes global Netflix success

The Danish miniseries Reservatet has emerged as one of Netflix’s most-watched shows globally in the first half of 2025. Released on 15 May, the series has already amassed nearly 34 million views, ranking it 21st on Netflix’s list of top-viewed content for the January-June period.

Set in an affluent suburb north of Copenhagen, the series follows the mysterious disappearance of a Filipina au pair, offering a chilling narrative that combines psychological drama and social commentary. Netflix highlighted the show in its quarterly report as one of the platform’s standout hits.

Nordic titles gain prominence among global audiences

Reservatet” is part of a broader trend of rising interest in Scandinavian series and non-English content. According to Netflix, more than one-third of all views between January and June came from content in languages other than English. This signals a shift in viewer preferences and highlights the global appeal of Nordic storytelling.

Another Danish production, “Dept Q” – Netflix’s adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen’s acclaimed crime novels – also made the top 40 list, with 25 million views since its release on 29 May.

From “Squid Game” to “Adolescence”

While Reservatet” secured its place among global hits, the top positions were dominated by other international productions. The British series “Adolescence”, released in March, led the rankings with 145 million views. Seasons two and three of the South Korean phenomenon “Squid Game” followed with 117 million and 72 million views respectively.

Nonetheless, the success of Danish titles underscores the continued strength of Nordic noir and its ability to resonate with diverse audiences worldwide.
